Solar powered raspberry pi bitcoin miner - Is it possible? N00b who has to do a senior project and is interested in cryptocurrency :)
Howdy. I'm a high school senior with a senior project to do. Let me preface this by saying I know absolutely nothing about raspberry pi or solar power (although I do know a bit no pun intended about bitcoin mining). Is it physically possible to make a solar powered raspberry pi (with a battery obviously) that uses a USB bitcoin miner to basically get extremely small amounts of bitcoin? It certainly does not have to rake in cash, as this is an educational project. I would like it to shut off automatically when the power supply is low, and simply resume automatically when the power increases. If this is even possible, what would be the budget on this contraption? Thanks! :)
Is it worth spending the money on a Raspberry Pi bitcoin miner setup?
So I am looking into start mining for myself, i have seen that the raspberry pi rigs are not to expensive si can anyone tell me how well they run once you have gotten it started or is there a better option out there?
I got my hands on 3 Block Erupters, a Logilink UA0124 powerid USB hub and wanted to mine on my Raspberry Pi 3. I followed this guide without problems, until I get to the ls /dev/USB part. When connected to the Pi it seems like only one of the ports works. If I plug a miner into that port, it shows up: /dev/ttyUSB0 It doesn't matter which of the three miners it is, they all enumerate in that port. If I have all three miners plugged, they all have a green light shining, and nothing shows up on the Pi. If I then unplug the USB hub from the Pi and plugs it into my main computer running Ubuntu, all three miners show up there. So all three miners works on my main computer but doesn't enumerate on my Pi. What am i missing? The hub is of course powered by and external powersupply, 3.5A. Final update: I had an old very cheap USB hub which surprisingly works. All three miners are now plugging away happily at just shy of one Gigahash. I can't wait for the riches to start accumulating ;) Update: dmesg output: That did show something:

Looking for a beginner hobby project: Is a Raspberry Pi controlled ASICMiner Block Erupter USB array worth my time?
Hello! I've been wanting to get involved with bitcoin mining for a while and thought that bitcoin black friday was a great time to take the plunge and order some hardware. I don't have the money to invest in hardware that would actually provide a net profit, but that's not really important as I'm interested in getting involved as a hobby project. I recently came across this PiMiner Raspberry Pi Bitcoin Miner kit/tutorial and it looks quite interesting. My question for you guys is if you've had any experience or know of any flaws with this setup or even if this is so outdated now so as to render it useless as a miner. I suppose the big unknown for me in this setup is the ASICMiner Block Erupter USB devices. Is there a better mining hobby setup available in the same kind of price range? Would the raspberry pi controller work with a better alternate USB ASIC miner? Thanks for taking the time to help me get started with this hobby!
I am really new to Coin mining and the RPi so I have no idea where I went wrong. I followed the Tutorial and didn't have any unresolved setup problems. I tried the both standard Rasbian and the Occidentakisv distros and ran into the same hitch. When I start cgminer I get the expected results "After starting cgminer, you should see a line saying: nohup: ignoring input and appending output to 'nohup.out This is normal. Press return to bring back the command prompt" After that I start PiMiner and... Nothing. The LCD displays "no connection to cgminer" and there are no error messages displayed at the command prompt. The USB miners have an LED to show activity, but there is none. Screenshot if it helps.
Is there a guide to getting started with a block erruptor.
So my sapphire block erruptor came this morning. I had intended to hook it up to my raspberry pi but I haven't finished building the eclosure or LCD readout (sort of like in learn.adafruit.com/piminer-raspberry-pi-bitcoin-mineinitial-setup-and-assembly but with an R3 UNO instead of adafruit). Is there a guide for the erruptor or setting it up in windows or linux and joining a mining group just to get started and limit downtime? All the vendor sent me was the block erruptor. No drivers or instructions.

(Even if mining doesn't work out, believe me, I'll find other uses for the Pi.) Eruptors seem cheap enough, and the hashrate seems pretty good when you consider the investment. I'm curious what the opinions of everyone here is? I know the article is specifically for bitcoin, but it seems like it could be easily changed to dogecoin. Considering I'd buy a Raspberry Pi regardless, would turning it into a mining rig be worth the additional investment in your opinion?
Help to configure ASIC Miner Block Erupter and raspberry pi

I'm using cgminer 4.5.0, but the HW (error) just keep increasing and WU don't go up.. I used the adafruit tutoral -> https://learn.adafruit.com/piminer-raspberry-pi-bitcoin-mineinstall-cgminer What can i do? UPDATE: i'm testing the Block erupter on my pc and it works fine. The different thing have done was installing on windows the silicon labs drivers. I will try to install the drivers on raspberry as well and see if it works.
